excellando, a collective created in 2014 by Alexis de Raphelis and Benoît Verjat, turns cinema and writing of stories into a performative art. Their explorations lead them to connect a butō dancer and micro-algae, follow a rhythmic gymnastics club at the French Championship, make a collection of tie and dye t-shirts, tell the story of a square of artificial turf, play portable synthesizers in forests, screen cockfights and a bleeding tree on top of a sand cascade or documenting the flooding of a floating university. Each attempt to investigate a new situation calls for new modes of narration and hybrid visual representations that recompose the steps of the making of documentary films (writing, filming, editing, projections, etc.) in order to involve broader collectives.

excellando, collectif créé en 2014 par Alexis de Raphelis et Benoît Verjat, veut penser le cinéma et l’écriture de récits comme un art vivant. Leurs explorations les mènent à mettre en dialogue un danseur de butō et des micros-algues, suivre un club de gymnastique rythmique au Championnat de France, fabriquer une collection de t-shirts tie and dye, conter l’histoire d’un carré de gazon synthétique, jouer du kaossilator aux forêts, projeter des combats de coqs et un arbre qui saigne sur des palmiers ou encore documenter l’inondation d’une université flottante. Pour enquêter sur une situation, chaque projet convoque des modes de narrations et de représentations hybrides et recompose les étapes de fabrication du récit documentaire (écriture, tournage, montage, projection, etc) pour impliquer un collectif plus large.
